The seals can become hard over time, causing the eventual leak, but it isnt the leak that is the biggest concern. If it shifts fine "engine off", that sorta rules out the shifter and linkage (not totally though). To test synchros, a "slow shift" or "double clutch/rev match" can test that. Bank 2 is always the side of the engine with cylinder #2. This only matters on the V6, not on the inline 4 cyl. Bank 1 is the bank of cylinders on the firewall side. The sensor is standing up with the plug on top. You can also look on top of the trans "just behind" where the coil pack ends (towards the firewall), same sensor..
